Happy World Environment Day 2020!

This year the theme of the World Environment Day is BIODIVERSITY. According to UN, the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. For instance, each year, marine plants produce more than a half of our atmosphere’s oxygen, and a mature tree cleans our air, absorbing 22 kilos of carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen in exchange. Despite all the benefits that our nature give us, we still mistreat it.That is why we need to work on that. That is why we need this Observance.

World Environment Day, hosted by Colombia this 2020, is the most renowned day for environmental action. Since 1974, it has been celebrated every year on 5 June: engaging governments, businesses, celebrities and citizens to focus their efforts on a pressing environmental issue.

This year, the theme is biodiversity – a concern that is both urgent and existential. Recent events, from bushfires in Brazil, the United States, and Australia to locust infestations across East Africa – and now, a global disease pandemic – demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life, in which they exist.

At Green Youth Generation, we are already practicing it from inception but we want other organizations to adopt our campaigning method by going digital or use recycled materials for creating campaigning materials. Our national and international coordinators have always used recycled materials for creating campaigning materials. The pollution created by campaigning materials is affecting our World. We need to change it, we need to shift our campaigning materials to digital. The purpose of any campaigning is to reach audience and deliver the message.

The campaigning materials left over after the events are thrown on streets the by participants which are consumed by stray animals and some goes into rivers which affect aquatic plants and animals. One-time disposal materials used by humans are already affected life on land and in water. We world need to adapt change before it became too late.

Last year, Election Commission, NGT, environment ministry say no to plastics in 2019 poll campaigning and this should be practiced worldwide as most campaigning materials are used only one time. The problem is not solved by just banning the plastic campaigning materials but we also need to assure that our biodegradable campaigning materials are not created at the cost of cutting a tree.

This is how we want to redefine campaigning and will train and engage our leaders to aware the world about it. If you are interested to join us the click here.

Once again, Happy World Environment Day.

Warm Regards,
